The biggest issue in the veteran community is unemployment and almost nothing impacts Georgia Cities like citizens who are drastically impacted financially due to unemployment. They will need to be employed, combat homelessness with affordable housing, provide help for mental health as well as suicide prevention. A plan of action will be discussed on how they can recover.

The Newly Elected Officials Institute provides a general overview of the function of municipal government in Georgia and the roles and responsibilities of mayors and councilmembers. The class includes an introduction to key issues such as ethics, municipal finance, planning and zoning, open meetings, open records and parliamentary procedures. All municipal elected officials taking office since July 1, 1990 are required by state law to complete the Newly Elected Officials Institute.

Local governments are required to file reports to different agencies throughout the year but mostly at the end of the calendar year.  GMA will review most of the reporting requirements on this webinar which include reports to Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Georgia Department of Audits, Georgia Government Transparency and Finance Commission, as well as other state and federal agencies.
