Washington is Tree City again, will replace welcome sign

In honor of Arbor Day, Mayor Ames M. Barnett signed a proclamation proclaiming February 15 as Arbor Day for Washington. Then, members of the tree board, city staff members, and Georgia Forestry Commission employees took a tour of Moon’s Tree Farm.

Parker will manage Main Street in addition to historical duties

The City of Washington’s Director of Historic Properties, Janet Parker, has been hired to take over the duties of the recently departed Main Street Director Elizabeth Elliott. Having been employed by the city for about a year, Parker worked closely with Elliott on many Main Street initiatives and was highly recommended by Elliott as her replacement.

County is doing it right, chairman says; rest of SDS process could be simplified

Charging that consultants and lawyers engaged by the City of Washington have confused and unnecessarily complicated the process of formulating a Service Delivery Strategy (SDS) agreement between the county and the city, Wilkes County Commission Chairman Sam Moore indicated that he thinks most of that problem has been worked out and he is hoping that the agreement can be settled upon as simply and quickly as it has in the past.
