Part of Georgia Bike’s safety education mission is partnering with cities and corresponding law enforcement agencies in Georgia to help officers better understand laws related to bicycling in the state.

Georgia Bikes leads POST-certified trainings for officers free of charge with a focus on bicycle rider safety; these sessions are beneficial for bicyclists and concerned community members as well as officers and local governments. With bicycling on the rise during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is as important as ever for officers to know the laws related to bicycling.

Georgia Bikes provide officers with a full safety kit, including a presentation with the Georgia Codes related to bicycling and other bicycle safety education information. In addition, they provide copies of Bicyclists Pocket Guides and access to PSAs (social media, radio, and video) for use in the local community.

Georgia Bikes would like to partner with Georgia Municipal Association members to make sure that local police departments know about this training offering. They have partnered with the Georgia Department of Transportation as well as the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety on both the training content as well as the materials handed out to participants.

The following cities and areas are of particular importance because of recent bicycle crashes and fatalities: Statesboro/Bulloch County, Gainesville/Hall County, Dahlonega/Lumpkin County, Rome/Floyd County, LaFayette/Walker County, Valdosta/Lowndes County, Albany/Dougherty County, Americus/Sumter County, Douglas/Coffee County, Waycross/Ware County, Blackshear/Pierce County, Dublin/Laurens County, and Brunswick/Glynn County.
