"The McDonough Youth Advisory Council is a civic and socially engaged body of young people providing effective community service through local government participation."

Each applicant completes an application and essay. Applications are reviewed and a determination is made if applicant will move forward in the process. Those moving forward in the process are interviewed by youth council officers, youth council advisors and city councilmembers. Applications are then reviewed by a review committee and evaluated. Based on the evaluations a final determination is made as to whose name will be submitted to the city council for final approval. City Council then reviews names and approves at an upcoming council meeting.

MYAC generally travels with small groups for overnight events. The councilmembers are housed separately (male and female rooms). The chaperones are stationed on each side of the councilmember’s rooms. No one councilmember can travel outside of the room alone (if one councilmember leaves the room, they all have to agree to leave together and must report to one of the chaperones prior to making any additional moves).
