Selection Process

Partner with local middle and K-8 schools to identify students to participate in the program.

Does group participate in overnight events?

Yes.

All out of town trips are coordinated by the Office of CRI and SYC mentors (City employees). SYC members traveling out of town are always accompanied by coordinators and mentors.

Words of advice to share with cities considering the establishment of a youth council

Don’t be worried about funding and budgets, just do it and give your youth a chance!

It is the mission of the Savannah Youth Council (SYC) program, to provide local youth with the experience of the working with city government while obtaining a sense of civic responsibility as well as the opportunity to develop and demonstrate leadership skills.

Event Description

Annual events and activities: Swearing-In Ceremony, Graduation Parades, Savannah/Chatham Day in Atlanta, Annual Mayors’ Motorcade, Annual Canned Food Drive to Second Harvest Food Bank.
