Meet the GMA President

Young Harris Mayor Andrea Gibby was elected president of the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) during the association's 2026 Annual Convention in Savannah on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

Gibby has served successively as third, second, and first vice president on the GMA Board of Directors. She has also chaired the organization's Legislative Policy Council.

Over 18 years as mayor, Gibby has guided Young Harris through significant growth and revitalization, bringing new businesses, housing developments, parks, community spaces, and expanded infrastructure to the small north Georgia mountain city. Among her most consequential achievements was successfully challenging a Georgia DOT highway expansion plan that would have expanded the highway that runs through Young Harris's downtown and neighborhoods, preserving the character of Young Harris for future generations.

Mayor Gibby serves as director of the Appalachian Children's Center, which provides services to children and families who have been victims of abuse and neglect. Her professional background includes two master's degrees in counseling and psychology and extensive experience as a therapist working with children who have experienced trauma — a foundation she credits with shaping her approach to collaboration, mediation, and community leadership.
