The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), in partnership with the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP), has launched the Excellence in Policing (EIP) Certification Program to help cities enhance public safety and strengthen community trust. Recognizing that protecting the public is the highest responsibility of local government, this initiative provides a scalable framework that supports cities of all sizes in elevating their law enforcement standards while reducing liability and insurance costs.
Through the program, police departments are guided in improving key operational areas, including human resources, evidence management, vehicle operations, use of force, search and seizure, crisis response, and technology. By implementing these professional standards, agencies can streamline management systems, boost performance, and increase officer morale. Certified departments demonstrate proactive leadership, stronger recruitment and retention, and lower risks of claims and litigation — including a 5% discount on GMA’s property and liability insurance program (GERMA).
Affordable and accessible for all Georgia cities, the EIP certification not only helps agencies achieve measurable safety and efficiency gains but also serves as a stepping stone to the GACP State Certification. Participating cities reaffirm their commitment to both their officers and citizens, ensuring safer, more trusted, and professionally managed law enforcement services.
