Congress is taking a break this week after passing H.R. 1, the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Approved 51-50 in the Senate on July 1, endorsed by the House on July 3, and signed into law by President Trump on July 4, the measure bundles many of the Administration’s priorities. GMA is reviewing the final text and will report on those items that impact cities.
FY 2026 Budget Up Next
Lawmakers will soon shift to the FY 2026 budget, which must be finished before October 1. This is the time for city officials to engage in the appropriations process.
Several Georgia cities have already filed earmark requests and should monitor their progress. This is also the time for you to remind your congressional representatives of the importance of the following federal programs that matter most at the local level:
- HUD funding CDBG and CHIP
- Water-infrastructure investments
- Disaster-preparedness and emergency response funds
- Transportation and transit funding
Your Voice Matters
Your advocacy influences how and if these programs are funded. GMA will continue to track developments and share information, but your advocacy makes a difference.
