NLC advocates for the nation's 19,000 cities, towns, and villages, and Georgia's delegation is a significant part of that: nearly 250 Georgia mayors and councilmembers serve on NLC committees and councils, 78 Georgia cities are NLC members, and six Georgia officials sit on the NLC Board of Directors.
In November, Savannah Mayor Van Johnson takes office as NLC President, following Union City Mayor Vince Williams, who held the role in 2022. NLC leadership applications are open through Monday, September 28, for the Board of Directors and leadership roles on Federal Advocacy Committees, Member Councils, and Constituency Groups. Leadership Opportunities
To be considered for a leadership position, applicants must be an elected official from a direct NLC member city, with all membership dues and applicable activity fees current at the time of application. If you're applying for a leadership role, consider asking your state league for a letter of endorsement. Contact Federal Relations Manager Molly McLoughlin to inquire about an endorsement from GMA.

Serving on the NLC Board gives municipal leaders a platform to broaden their impact at the national level. NLC City Summit in Nashville
NLC's annual City Summit runs November 18–21 in Nashville. Mayor Van Johnson begins his term as NLC President during the conference, stepping into his role as a national advocate for cities and a key voice for Georgia communities.
