Governor Brian Kemp has now signed several important pieces of legislation from the 2025 session that will benefit cities across Georgia. GMA appreciates Gov. Kemp's support of these measures and his continued recognition of the role cities play in driving Georgia’s quality-of-life and economic strength.
The following bills, all signed into law, reflect collaboration among city officials, state legislators, other partners, and Governor Kemp’s team:
- HB 137: Raises the public works bidding threshold, reducing administrative burdens for local infrastructure projects.
- HB 155: Improves the annexation dispute process and clarifies zoning procedures.
- HB 399: Requires local points of contact for rental properties to enhance accountability and code compliance.
- HB 513: Clarifies funding options for unincorporated area services under the Service Delivery Strategy Act.
- SB 12: Ensures that open records requests are directed to the appropriate government entities.
- SB 13: Expands GEFA loan eligibility to support natural gas infrastructure.
- SB 298: Allows immediate appeal of rulings denying sovereign or qualified immunity, reducing costs and delays of litigation.
These new laws reflect thoughtful policymaking and a willingness from state leaders to listen to and work with Georgia’s cities. GMA thanks Governor Kemp for signing these bills and for his continued partnership on issues that matter to local communities.
