Buses and Bus Facilities Program

The Buses and Bus Facilities Program provides funds to to assist in the financing of buses and bus facilities capital projects, including replacing, rehabilitating, purchasing or leasing buses or related equipment, and rehabilitating, purchasing, constructing or leasing bus-related facilities.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

    • State governments
    • Federally recognized Native American tribal governments
    • County governments
    • City or township governments

Match Requirement

In general, the maximum Federal share is 80 percent . There are two exceptions (See 49 U.S.C. 5323(i)):

    • The Federal share is 85 percent for transit buses that are compliant with the Clean Air Act or are accessible to people with disabilities.
    • The Federal share is 90 percent for equipment and components of facilities related to low- or zero-emission buses or are to make the facility accessible to people with disabilities. Applicants must itemize the cost of specific, discrete, equipment or facility components that perform these functions to be eligible for this higher Federal share.
