Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act Program

The Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act program funds the delivery of and access to mental health and wellness services, training, and programming for employees of law enforcement agencies and their families through the implementation of peer support, training, family resources, suicide prevention, stress reduction, clinical support, and other promising practices for wellness programs. The LEMHWA program will fund projects that:

    • Increase law enforcement agency capacity to provide mental health and wellness training and resources for employees of law enforcement agencies and their families.
    • Increase law enforcement agency capacity to implement peer support networks for crisis and non-crisis circumstances.
    • Increase law enforcement agency capacity to create a culture of wellness by supporting the implementation of mental health education and development of resources.

Each award is $250,000. There is no local match of funding required. Awards made under this funding opportunity are two years (24 months) in length.

Note that there are two deadlines. The deadline to submit an SF-424 on Grants.gov is Tuesday, June 24, 2025 (by 4:59pm ET). The deadline to submit the full application, including attachments on JustGrants is Monday, June 30, 3035 (by 4:59pm ET).

Eligibility

Eligible entities include:

    • Law enforcement agencies
    • State law enforcement agencies
    • Federally-recognized Indian Tribes and their public agencies
    • Territorial law enforcement agencies

Local, state, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies that have primary law enforcement authority for their jurisdiction. Agencies that respond only to certain types of crimes, such as statewide investigative agencies, or only to crimes occurring within correctional institutions, are ineligible. Proposed projects can serve a group of agencies, but only one agency can submit the application.

Applicants that have received previous LEMHWA funding are not eligible for this program.

This grant has a two-step application process.

    1. STEP 1: Submit an SF-424 in Grants.gov. Grants.gov Application Deadline: Thursday, July 30, 2026 (4:59 PM ET).
    2. STEP 2: Submit the full application including attachments in JustGrants. JustGrants Application Deadline: Wednesday, August 5, 2026 (4:59 PM ET).
