The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries.
The SS4A program provides funding for two types of grants: Planning and Demonstration Grants and Implementation Grants. You can learn more about Planning and Demonstration Grants and Implementation Grants.
Eligibility
Funds for the fiscal year (FY) 2026 SS4A grant program are to be awarded on a competitive basis to support planning, infrastructural, behavioral, and operational initiatives to prevent death and serious injury on roads and streets. View the SS4A NOFO.
The following groups of applicants are eligible for the SS4A grant program:
- Metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs).
- Political subdivisions of a State or territory (e.g., counties, cities, towns, special districts, certain transit agencies, and similar units of local government).
- Federally recognized Tribal governments.
Match Requirement
The Federal share of an SS4A grant may not exceed 80% of total eligible SS4A project costs. Recipients are required to contribute a local matching share of no less than 20% of total eligible project costs.

Deadline
Technical questions must be submitted by 5:00 PM (EDT) on April 24, 2026.
Pre-application eligibility review requests must be submitted for Implementation Grants by 5:00 PM (EDT) on April 24, 2026.
All grant applications must be submitted by 5pm EDT on May 26, 2026.
