Model Derelict and Blighted Property Ordinance

Cities across Georgia face challenges related to derelict and nuisance properties, and questions frequently arise about how to address this growing issue. In response, a model ordinance has been developed, based on ordinances from the City of Griffin, to assist cities in managing these properties. The ordinance combines nuisance abatement procedures with the option to impose a blight tax on qualifying properties, as permitted by the Georgia Constitution and state law. This provides cities with a comprehensive tool for addressing and mitigating the impact of derelict properties.
