Model Prepaid Wireless Telecommunications 9-1-1 Charge Ordinance

Georgia law provides comprehensive regulation of 9-1-1 charges on prepaid wireless services. To impose this charge, cities must pass an ordinance or resolution and file a certified copy with the Department of Revenue by December 31 of the year prior to when the fee will be imposed. Additionally, cities must complete and submit a form provided by the Department of Revenue, along with the certified ordinance or resolution.

Cities that operate a 9-1-1 public safety answering point, including those involved in joint or regional systems, are eligible to impose this charge. Failure to file the required documents will prevent a city from collecting the fee for the upcoming year.
