What to Expect

Over three days, participating mayors will reflect on their crucial leadership role and explore how to exercise influence from the chair, not just to manage the responsibilities of the office, but to lead their communities effectively.

Through interactive sessions, discussion with peers, and insights from experienced practitioners, mayors will explore topics such as cultivating productive relationships, communicating with the media, emerging issues in municipal government, strengthening community engagement, and more.

Selection Process

Class size is limited, and submission of a brief online application is required for consideration. The class will be selected to ensure representation from a broad cross-section of GMA’s member cities and will prioritize candidates who demonstrate a commitment to full participation.

Priority will also be given to those who have not previously participated in the Academy.

Training Credit

By completing the full program, participants will earn six hours of credit in the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute. Individuals who completed the program in 2024 will not be eligible to receive additional credit.

The Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute is offered through a partnership between GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
