It’s a bleak shopping center just outside the Perimeter in Doraville, but developers are hoping to change that. A large-scale redevelopment could give new life to the property through a mix of retail and more than 300 apartments.
In 1909, the town’s name was changed to Colbert in honor of Fletcher Colbert. The main farm productions were cotton, poultry, corn and flour mills, livery stables, and several stores.
All said adding more lanes would not solve the traffic woes on I-285 and they are urging the Georgia Department of Transportation to reevaluate the project.

The Greenway master plan includes a 12-mile multiuse trail connecting Brookhaven, Chamblee, Doraville, Mercer University in unincorporated DeKalb County and eventually the Atlanta BeltLine.
Extension plans for the Rail Trail include incorporating it into a Peachtree Road streetscape project and connecting it to a multi-use trail in Doraville. There are also plans to connect the Rail Trail to the Greenway that is slated to eventually connect to the Atlanta BeltLine.
This proposal is being introduced in the Spring 2019 session of the Georgia General Assembly. If passed by the legislature, there will be a referendum held for voters within the proposed annexation area to decide if they will join the city.
The cities that are involved are Brookhaven, Chamblee, Doraville, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Smyrna and Tucker. The Cumberland and Perimeter Community Improvement Districts have also been partners.
