The Hampton oval has been a shelter for those escaping the wrath of hurricanes in recent years. Over 100 campers stayed at the track in 2017 during Hurricane Irma, and dozens more stayed in the camping areas during Hurricanes Florence and Michael.
The Hampton City Council has voted in favor of a 70/30 revenue split for the proposed SPLOST V referendum at a called meeting on Wednesday.
The other proposal, which would have involved making the road a two-lane street and adding a sidewalk, apparently did not go over well with Hampton residents and those who live adjacent to the street, primarily due to how close the sidewalk would come to the people’s houses.
Until just after the start of 2019, Cohilas had served as Clayton County’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer until the position was eliminated following a shift in power among the Clayton County Board of Commissioners.
