This week, Molly McLoughlin, GMA’s Manager of Federal Relations, is in Washington, D.C., meeting with members of Georgia’s congressional delegation and their staff to share the priorities and concerns of Georgia’s cities. In the update below, she reflects on the discussions taking place on Capitol Hill and the latest developments affecting local governments.
This week, I’m reporting from D.C. after a busy stretch of meetings sharing Georgia cities’ priorities and concerns with our congressional delegation’s key legislative staff. Despite the government shutdown, staffers are mostly operating as usual, with the House in recess for almost four weeks and the Senate continuing to vote on the continuing resolution to fund the government. I also had the chance to meet with the National League of Cities’ federal advocacy team.
I shared GMA’s support for the ROAD to Housing Act, which recently passed out of the Senate, raised our concerns over delayed FEMA reimbursements, and emphasized the need for critical infrastructure funding to support growing Georgia communities.
November 1 seems to be another impasse for the government shutdown discussions, but no one is quite sure how or when the two parties will come together for a deal.
