Legal Advocacy Program
Laws affecting cities are made year-round in the courts as well as in the General Assembly. GMA’s Legal Advocacy Program provides support and assistance to member municipalities in a limited number of cases where the outcome could have major significance to cities statewide.

The Legal Advocacy Program has two components.
Legal Defense Fund
The Legal Defense Fund offers financial support to municipalities facing litigation involving novel and significant legal issues. This assistance covers legal fees, court costs, and related expenses for cases where a favorable outcome could benefit a substantial number of Georgia municipalities.
Amicus Briefs
GMA provides amicus curiae support in cases with significant statewide implications for Georgia municipalities. Attorneys may submit requests for GMA’s involvement, which will be evaluated based on criteria such as legal impact, common municipal interests, and the likelihood of success.
